I officially caught “Fall Fever” this week. Can’t you tell?

crochet spiced pumpkins

It happens every year without fail. The end of September rolls around, and suddenly the air feels crisp, all I wear are red and brown sweaters, and everything tastes like a pumpkin spice latte. So I hope ya’ll are pumped for fall crochet patterns, because that is all you’re getting for the next month!

But honestly, these pumpkins kind of cool. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but they are made with ACTUAL cinnamon sticks and cloves in the stuffing, which makes them smell absolutely heavenly. They’re also a fairly quick project, which makes them a great little “happy fall” gift for all your friends.

I put two sizes for the crochet spiced pumpkins in the pattern, but you can easily adjust it to whatever size you want. Personally, I think it would be really awesome if someone went and made a ginormous one for their front porch.

By the way, I’m SO excited to see the trees change colors here in Illinois! We don’t get a whole lot of colors back in Wyoming. There are lots of maples, so I’m hoping for some oranges and reds. We’ll see. There’s still a lot of green left on them, but, as you can see, I’ve been finding a few colored leaves in my neighbors’ yards.

-Red Heart Super Saver yarn in fall colors. I used Latte Stripe.

-Size G (4.25 mm) crochet hook

-Whole cloves and cinnamon sticks

-Stuffing

-Scissors

-Yarn needle.

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

hdc – half double crochet

BLO – back loop only

Gauge:

16 hdc x 11 rows = 4″ x 4″

Dimensions:

Small pumpkin: 3″ tall, 9.75″ around.

Large Pumpkin: 4′ tall, 12.25″ around.

Pattern Notes:

-Save one whole cinnamon stick to use for the stem at the end. I chose not to glue it in, but you can if you want.

-Don’t stuff the pumpkin all the way full before adding the spices. You can finish stuffing afterwards. It makes it easier to evenly distribute the spices if you just have it loosely stuffed.

-This is optional, but they look really cute with a little jute cord bow around the stem 🙂

Small Pumpkin:

Ch 16.

Row 1) hdc in second chain from hook, and in each chain across. Ch 1, turn.

Rows 2-18) hdc BLO in each stitch across. Ch 1, turn.

Big Pumpkin:

Ch 21.

Row 1) hdc in second chain from hook, and in each chain across. Ch 1, turn.

Rows 2-23) hdc BLO in each stitch across. Ch 1, turn.

Finishing Off:

Do not fasten off. Ch 1 and turn. Sl st bottom end of the piece to the row you just did, in each st across. Fasten off with a long tail.

Use the long tail to cinch up the bottom of the pumpkin. Fasten off. Turn inside out.

Lightly stuff the pumpkin. Then, crush your whole cinnamon sticks into pieces, but don’t grind them. Set one whole cinnamon stick aside for the stem of the pumpkin. Add the cinnamon and whole cloves, in between the stuffing and the walls of the pumpkin. make sure they’re evenly distributed around the whole pumpkin. Then finish stuffing the pumpkin as desired.

Cinch up the top of the pumpkin, but leave a small hole for the cinnamon stick. You may need to break the cinnamon stick in half, so that it fits in the pumpkin.

All done!
