easy crochet sunflower wreath

So…why is this crochet sunflower wreath so easy? Well, because most of it isn’t actually crocheted. Hehe. Actually I got a cheap, unembellished grapevine wreath at Dollar General, stuck some crocheted sunflowers and leaves on it, and VOILA!! A crocheted sunflower wreath!

So I’m a fraud, you say? So I don’t deserve the title of Crocheter just because I sought to make life a little easier and used a premade wreath instead of making my own? Hmm? Is that what you’re saying?

Well, let me just remind you that I am not here to offer difficult, time consuming, sweat-blood-and-tears crochet patterns. It would not be my nature to do so. Folks, I am here to design achievable crochet patterns that help women create beautiful, handmade homes.

And if you don’t like it, go take up lacework, or some other agonizing craft. Hmph. Whatever.

Easy Crochet Sunflower Wreath:

Materials:

-Any medium weight acrylic or cotton yarn in brown (I used Mainstays acrylic brown), yellow (I used Lily Sugar ‘N Cream in yellow), and green (I used Lily Sugar ‘N Cream in Sage)

-Size G (4.25 mm) crochet hook

-Premade grapevine wreath (or any other wreath to your liking)

-Scissors and yarn needle

-Stitch marker

-A little bit of stuffing

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:

mc – magic circle

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

Gauge: With brown Mainstays yarn: 16 sc x 17 rows = 4″ x 4″

Pattern Notes:

-So basically, you’ll make two brown circles. Then, you’ll sc the two circles together, and stuff them lightly. That’s the middle of the sunflower. Finally, you’ll work with the yellow yarn in the joining scs to make the petals of the sunflower.

-The middles of the sunflowers are worked in continuous rounds; do not join at the end of each round.

-Instead of “sewing” the finished pieces to the wreath, I just use the loose ends to tie them into place.

-Anything between the asterisks is repeated to the end of the round.

Big Sunflower:

Middle of sunflower (make 2):

With brown yarn:

Rnd 1) mc, ch 1, 8 sc in circle.

Rnd 2) 2 s in each stitch around.

Rnd 3) *1 sc in first stitch, 2 sc in next* around.

Rnd 4) *1 sc in first 2 stitches, 2 sc in next* around.

Rnd 5) *1 sc in first 3 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch* around.

Do not fasten of from the second circle. Take the other circle and sc the 2 circles together, with right sides facing out. Stuff lightly as you go.

Petals:

Switch to yellow yarn.

Attach yarn in the first stitch.

Rnd 6) ch 1, sl st in same, *skip 2, (6dc, ch 2, 6 dc) in next stitch, skip 1, sl st in next* around, work last sl st on top of the first sl st in the round.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Small Sunflower (make 2):

Attach sunflowers to wreath.

Leaves:

I made seven leaves, but you can really just make as many as you’d like.
