Well, hello. I’m back. Finally emerged from the chaos of the Christmas season. I know I promised more Christmas patterns. It just didn’t happen. I’m really, truly, sincerely sorry. So I bring you this peace offering, humbly begging for forgiveness: the Music Note Tapestry Crochet Coaster.

I love music. Always have. I grew up singing and playing the violin. I tried piano for a while, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t agree with me. Maybe someday I’ll give it another shot. But in any case, that’s not really the reason I designed this.

This is what really happened.

You see, one of my wonderful brothers is going through a phase. A lame pun phase. Torturous, I know. Every day, first thing in the morning, I’ll be making coffee or something, when I hear a mischievous snicker coming from behind me. Then I know what’s coming. He’s back. With another one of his cringey monstrosities.

“Hey, Hannah! When is a door not a door? When it’s ajar! Get it?! A JAR!!! HAHAHAHA!!”

Ugh.

For Christmas, my parents even got him a book called “The Good, the Dad, and the Punny”. I will never understand the motives behind that… and here’s the thing: they’re DAD jokes!! He’s not even a dad yet!!! There should really be a law against this kind of buffoonery.

So anyway, his puns creep into his hobbies too, like woodworking (he’s really good at that!). He was making a plaque for our church organist that said, “without music, life would B flat”. All you music nerds know what I’m talking about. “Be flat”, but it’s B flat, the note. Hahaha. Hysterical.

And that’s when it hit me. Never in all my born days have I crocheted a music themed project. So I went and did it. Minus the lame puns, of course.

By the way, do you like our nerdy Latin mug?! It says, “Rident stolidi verba Latina”, which translates to, “The uncultured ridicule Latin words”. Love it!

Music Note Tapestry Crochet Coaster Pattern:

Materials:

-Caron Simply Soft (or any other worsted weight yarn) in Off White and Black

-Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook

-scissors and yarn needle

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

W – white

B – black

Gauge: 18 sc x 18 rows = 4″ x 4″

Finished Size: 4.5″ in height x 4.2″ in width

Pattern Notes:

-This pattern is made using the tapestry crochet technique.

-Black border is not on the color chart, because it is added at the very end.

-In the written instructions, for each row you will have a capital letter standing for the color of the yarn, and the number after it will be how many sc stitches you will work in that color. For example: W8, B4, W6 means you will work 8 stitches in white, 4 in black, and then 8 in white.

-I know it doesn’t specify, but all stitches are single crochet. For anything with a capital letter and a number, assume it means that number of single crochets.

-I only have the written instructions included with the free pattern, but I will have the printable pdf with a color chart included coming soon to Ravelry!
