crochet pumpkin dish scrubber

Here’s another random idea for you: the crochet pumpkin dish scrubber. For some reason, I didn’t even have to think about this one. I just started making it without a plan, and somehow knew exactly what I was doing.

Also, I’ve had a lot of people tell me that this could also be a coaster. Which, I guess it could. But for some reason, I’m just enthralled with the idea of it being a dish scrubber, so that’s what I called it.

These really only take like 15 minutes to make. Seriously. All you do is make two orange circles, single crochet them together, and add a stem and a leaf. It’s that simple. And if you’re trying to use up your end-of-October, orange cotton yarn stash (like me), this is a great option for that.

Wait!! Before I finish up, I want to tell you about my Halloween costume! One of my friends got an idea, that my brother should be Henry VIII of England, and that we and a bunch of other girls should be all his dead wives! How ingenious is that?! It’s going to be hilarious. I can’t help but feel a little bit sorry for my poor brother, though…

The Crochet Pumpkin Dish Scrubber Pattern:

Materials:

-About 200 yards of orange cotton yarn in orange, and less than 100 yards in green (I used Peaches & Cream in Bright Orange and Rosemary)

-Size G (4.25 mm) crochet hook

-Stitch marker

-Scissors and yarn needle

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:

mc – magic circle

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

Gauge: 15 sc x 14 rows = 4″ x 4″

Pattern Notes:

-What you’ll be doing is making two separate circles, single crocheting them together, then making the stem and the leaf.

-Rounds are continuous; do not join at the end of each round.

-Anything between the asterisks is repeated to the end of the round.

-Make sure you weave in your beginning ends BEFORE you stitch the two circles together. I learned that one the hard way, haha!

Circles for the pumpkin (make 2):

With orange yarn:

Rnd 1) mc, ch 1, 8 sc in circle, pull shut.

Rnd 2) 2 sc in each stitch around.

Rnd 3) *1 sc, 2 sc in next* around.

Rnd 4) *1 sc in next 2, 2 sc in next* around.

Rnd 5) *1 sc in next 3, 2 sc in next* around.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

With right sides facing out, sc both circles together. Do not fasten off. Change to green yarn.

Stem:

With green yarn, ch 4.

Rw 1) sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in remaining 2 chs. Sl st in next orange stitch of pumpkin. ch 1, turn.

Rw 2) sc in each stitch across.

Fasten off.

Leaf:

With green yarn:

Rnd 1) mc, ch 1, 4 sc, ch 2, 4 sc, pull shut.

Fasten off and sew to pumpkin.

All done!
